In 1975, six years after the implementation of the Black Studies Center (BSC), the BSC faculty raised a number of issues to the Council of Presidents, including the lack of funds for the pre-freshman summer program, the inferior status of the BSC faculty compared to other faculty, and concerns about the administration of the center.

Black Student Union
Despite a tense campus atmosphere following demonstrations, the Claremont colleges moved forward with the Black Studies Center in March. The Black Student Union was successful in creating tangible change on the campuses. Specific gains include the admission of more students of color, the hiring of more Black faculty members, and the addition of Black Studies courses to the offerings. The 1969 Black Studies Center continues in 2018 as the Intercollegiate Department of Africana Studies and the Office of Black Student Affairs.

Bombing
Racism
The title of this article affirms that the Black Student Union "fled" campus after the Pomona and Scripps campus bombings: a loaded phrasing. The wording captures the tension on campus, and implies that the BSU students feared reprisals against them for the bombings. A casual reader might also infer that by their departure, the BSU acknowledged responsibility for the bombs, which was not the case. This trend of suggestive reporting was common in newspapers around California in the weeks after the bombs.
